SCRAPPY FAQ's
Frequently Asked Questions about Scrappy:
Q: Is a Scrappy Food Waste Disposer safe to use.?
A: Completely. Many people think that a food waste disposer has blades.
This is not true. A Scrappy Food Waste Disposer uses blunt swivel
impellers to crush food against the side of the grind chamber.
Q: Can a food waste disposer be used when the house has a septic system?
A: Septic systems need a certain amount of food derived substances to
accelerate the various biological reactions. The normal 2840 liter
septic tank is perfectly adequate.
Q: How much maintenance does a disposer need?
A: Scrappy Food Waste Disposers are designed and built so they do
not need any type of preventive maintenance. Just install it and use
it! If your disposer should become jammed, an overload protector
shuts down the unit to
prevent motor damage and is easily activated by a reset button once the jam is cleared.
Q: How much water and electricity do food waste disposers use?
A: The average usage is only 3.1 liters per day per person, or a .04%
increase in household water consumption. The average electric power
consumption of a .55 HP food waste disposer for one month is equal to
the power consumption of a 100 watt light bulb for one hour! (3.7 watts
/ hour)
Q: How reliable are food waste disposers?
A: Very reliable. Although every Scrappy Food Waste Disposer is
guaranteed with a warranty ( 6 months on parts & labor; 1
year on installation), it is very rare that your food waste disposer
will need any repair during the
warranty period ( ZERO repairs needed since 2002). Should
any problem arise, a Scrappy Technician is ready to fix it within
48 hours.
Q: What if something falls inside accidentally?
A: If something falls inside that should not be ground, turn off the disposer
immediately. Although hands are safe to retrieve the object since there
are no blades to cut or scratch, you may use tongs or a wire
hanger to retrieve the object.
Q: Are disposers noisy?
A: Scrappy Food Waste Disposers do make some noise but are
relatively quiet ( much more than a blender or other appliances).
Q: Do we need a special sink?
A: Scrappy Food Waste Disposers are compatible with most modern type of sinks.
